What We Learned at Inman Connect NYC 2017

The Inman Connect event held every January in New York City is always an exciting time for C21 Redwood Realty. Several of us – from the owners to staff to agents – gather together to speak about our experiences, as well as to listen and learn from other real estate practitioners from across the world.

This year, Billy Ekofo and Tara Christianson represented C21 Redwood as Inman Ambassadors for the event, and Inman Influencers for 2017 Coral Gundlach, Eddie Berenbaum and Billy Ekofo were all present to be recognized at the Influencer Bash!

Our co-founder and President, Eddie Berenbaum kicked things off with his panel in front of his peers at CEO Connect, held at the NY Times building. Eddie discussed how leadership has changed in the industry and what it means to be a forward-thinking, innovative leader.

Once the main event – Connect – started, there were 3 points that  were made over and over again by speakers on the large and small stages.

Make it Mobile

More and more consumers are making quick decisions using only their mobile devices. These decisions can range from homebuying to choosing a partner, all through apps and mobile sites. (Google calls them micro-moments.)

With that in mind, think about the mobile experience you’re providing your clients. Can they find you easily using search? Are they uncovering the information about you that you want them to find? Can they contact you directly from their mobile device? Is the information you have online – on social sites, on your website – updated and distinguishable from every other agent in your area?

These are all questions to keep in mind as we proceed into an increasingly mobile world.

Create a Community

Culture was another big focus in this Inman Connect – not just the culture within your office and brokerage, but the culture that agents have created for each other in the real estate industry.

One of the major talking points was reaching outside of your usual circle to meet new people, including those from other industries, so you can learn and expand your own ideas and grow your business.

The importance of creating and sustaining a community of agents was also discussed in regards to maintaining and improving the overall health of the real estate industry. After all, we’re all in this together! Leadership has to start from some level, whether from the top-down or from the bottom-up. Do you have that kind of leadership and culture?

Face the Future

At its heart, Inman Connect is still very much about technology and its place in the real estate industry. The biggest technological advances discussed were: Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), 360 degree video capture, and interactive presentations.

Augmented reality takes an existing photo or video and supplements it with computer-generated sounds, images or other data. In real estate, it’s a great way to overlay and showcase furniture or fixtures in an empty home that you don’t want to have to physically stage.

Virtual reality is a completely computer-generated world, and is an especially great way for prospective buyers to be able to visualize new construction developments.

360 degree video capture puts the viewing power back into the clients’ hands. By giving them the complete picture, they’re given the control to choose what they want to see, whenever they want to see it.

Interactive presentations allow you to combine elements of static imagery and content with video and augmented reality to create something truly memorable for potential sellers and buyers alike.

One of the best things about this Inman Connect was that it confirmed that we’re on the right track at C21 Redwood Realty. Many times it was mentioned that agents need guidance and clear leadership, that they should be provided with exceptional, innovative tools and that the culture of every office should be open and forward-thinking. These are all things we already pride ourselves on at Redwood, and we look forward to continuing to prove ourselves as the brokerage of today and tomorrow for both our agents and our clients.
